A Hidden Gem in Sarpy County
Special thanks to Tara Simons with the Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce for introducing us to this incredible spot during a recent meeting. Sometimes the best places are right in your backyard—you just need the right nudge to discover them. Fontenelle Forest is one of the largest private nature centers in the country, with over 1,500 acres of forest, wetlands, and prairie to explore.
We took some time to hike the trails and soak in the scenery. With miles of paths and boardwalks winding through the forest, it's easy to forget you're just minutes from Omaha. One of the highlights of our visit was seeing the birds of prey Fontenelle Forest cares for and rehabilitates through its raptor conservation program. We even got to see two bald eagles up close, which was an unforgettable moment.
